ABOUT UNDERSTANDING HEARTS
Clarity. Compassion.
A way forward.
Founded by parents who understand firsthand how overwhelming it can be to find the right support, Understanding Hearts Foundation helps families navigate the next steps with clarity and compassion.

OUR PURPOSE
Less confusion.
More room to
be a family.
Understanding Hearts Foundation is a Minnesota nonprofit supporting families raising neurodivergent children. We help families navigate complicated systems with clarity, compassion, and practical guidance.
We work alongside families. We don’t replace clinicians, educators, or service providers, and we don’t make diagnoses or promise eligibility.
First, we listen.
Every family’s circumstances are different. We start with what matters to you and what feels hardest right now.
Then, we untangle.
We help translate unfamiliar terms, organize questions, and identify the people or programs that may be able to help.
Next, we find a step.
A clearer conversation. A better-prepared appointment. A more manageable plan for following up.
WHAT GUIDES US
The family stays
at the center.
Good navigation makes space for real life, individual choices, and different ways forward.
Respect & privacy
Families deserve dignity. Their personal experiences are their own to share, and support should never depend on telling a public story.
Practical clarity
We focus on understandable information, useful questions, and manageable next steps.
Family choice
We respect each family’s priorities and pace. We help prepare for decisions without making clinical or eligibility decisions for them.
